Who provides towing in Lake Forest around the clock?

Towing in Lake Forest is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (682) 427-5421. The call goes to a local tow operator based in Irvine, which borders Lake Forest, so you talk directly to the people sending the truck.

Lake Forest sits on the southeast edge of Irvine, and the two cities share the same freeways and a lot of the same commuters. A tow operator working out of Irvine treats Lake Forest as home ground, from the business parks along Bake Pkwy to the homes up in Foothill Ranch.

Most calls here fall into two groups. Commuters break down on the I-5 or the 241 during the morning or evening drive. Residents find a car that won't start in a driveway or a shopping center lot along Lake Forest Dr or El Toro Rd. Both get the same phone number and the same operator. Nearby, we also handle towing in Irvine and Tustin.

02

What should I do if my car dies on the I-5 in Lake Forest?

Coast to the right shoulder or take the next exit if you can. If the car stops in a lane, keep your seat belt on, stay inside and call 911 first. When you're out of traffic, call us with your direction and the last exit you passed.

The I-5 through Lake Forest is wide and busy, and the El Toro Y, where the 5 and 405 split, is close by to the northwest. Merging traffic around the split leaves little margin for a stopped car. The shoulder is safer than a lane, and an off-ramp is safer than the shoulder.

Exits that help us find you

  • Lake Forest Dr
  • El Toro Rd
  • Alton Pkwy
  • Bake Pkwy

Tell us northbound or southbound and the nearest of these. If you made it onto a surface street, a business name or intersection is even better. If an officer arrives first and gives you instructions, follow them. We can take the car once it's out of the travel lanes.

Can you tow a car that broke down on the SR-241 toll road?

We can come for a car stranded on or near the 241. Your safety comes before the tow: get to the shoulder or an exit, and call 911 if you're in a live lane. If an officer on scene directs a different tow, follow their instructions.

The SR-241 is a FasTrak toll road that runs through the hills east of Lake Forest and Foothill Ranch. Stretches of it are open country with long gaps between exits, so describing where you stopped takes a little more care than on the 5.

Things that help:

  • Your direction, northbound or southbound.
  • The last interchange or exit sign you passed.
  • Any sign or landmark you can see from the car without getting out.

We are not a contracted service for the toll road, and we don't claim to be. We're a local operator you can call directly. Once the car is in a safe spot, it can go to a shop in Lake Forest, back home, or somewhere farther on a long-distance tow.

04

How do I get a tow on El Toro Road?

Call with the closest cross street or shopping center name on El Toro Rd. A precise location is the quickest way to get a truck lined up, because El Toro Rd is long and busy and its strip centers look similar from the street.

El Toro Rd runs through the middle of Lake Forest from the I-5 up toward the foothills, with shopping centers, gas stations and medical offices along most of it. A lot of Lake Forest breakdowns end up here, since it's the road people use to reach the freeway.

If the car quits in a traffic lane on El Toro Rd, turn on your hazards. If it still rolls and it's safe to do so, get it into a parking lot or a side street. A lot gives the tow truck room to line up and load without blocking traffic.

Lake Forest Dr and Bake Pkwy work the same way. Give us the cross street, the side of the road and the direction you were driving.

05

Do you tow in Foothill Ranch?

Yes. Foothill Ranch is part of the regular Lake Forest service area, including the homes, the shopping center near Portola Pkwy and the business parks nearby. Call with the street address or the name of the business where the car is parked.

Foothill Ranch is the northern part of Lake Forest, closer to the 241 and the hills. Calls from there are a mix of residential driveways, apartment carports and the parking lots of the business parks.

Driveways and carports

A sloped driveway or a tight carport can be easier for a wheel-lift truck, which is shorter and can back straight in. If the car is all-wheel drive or won't roll, it still needs a flatbed, and the driver may move it to the street to load. Tell us about the slope and any gate code when you call.

If your HOA has rules on tow trucks in the community, let us know and we'll work within them. More on matching the truck to the car is on the flatbed towing page.

06

What vehicles can you tow from Lake Forest?

We tow cars, SUVs, light trucks and motorcycles, plus some commercial vehicles such as work vans and light pickups. Tell us the make, model and anything loaded in the back, and we'll confirm on the phone whether it fits our equipment.

The business parks around Bake Pkwy and Alton Pkwy mean a share of Lake Forest calls are for work vehicles. A service van or a pickup with a rack is often within range. Give us the size and load so the right truck comes.

For passenger cars, the main question is flatbed or wheel-lift. AWD vehicles, most electric cars, low cars and anything damaged in a crash ride on a flatbed. Many front-wheel-drive cars can go on a wheel-lift. If you aren't sure what drive your car has, the owner's manual will say, or we can look it up from the year, make and model.

Motorcycles ride on the flatbed, upright and strapped down.

07

Can I get a jump start or tire change in Lake Forest instead of a tow?

Often, yes. Jump starts, flat changes with your own spare, lockouts and fuel delivery are done where the car sits, so a simple problem gets fixed in the driveway or the lot and you keep driving.

A car that sat for a week while you traveled, or one with a light left on overnight, usually just needs a jump. A nail in a tire on Lake Forest Dr is a tire change if the spare is good. If the spare is flat or missing, the car gets towed to a tire shop.

Lockouts happen in grocery store lots and at the gym. Tell us if a child or pet is inside, and call 911 too if they're in danger. Running out of gas on the 241, where exits are farther apart, is another common one. Fuel delivery gets you enough to reach a station.

Details are on the roadside assistance page.

08

Can you tow my car from Lake Forest to a shop in another city?

Yes. Local tows to a shop in Irvine, Costa Mesa or Newport Beach are routine, and longer trips between cities and regions are quoted by phone before the truck rolls. Have the full destination address ready when you call.

Plenty of Lake Forest drivers have a mechanic or dealer somewhere else in central Orange County, whether in Costa Mesa, Newport Beach or Irvine, or need a car moved much farther. Either way the information we need is the same: the pickup address, the destination, whether the car runs and rolls, and where the keys are.

For a long-distance tow, also tell us who will be at the drop-off to receive the car and whether that business is open when it arrives. After-hours drop-offs need a plan for the keys. We'll talk it through on the phone before anything is loaded.

FAQ

What do drivers ask before calling a tow truck in Lake Forest?

Is your Lake Forest towing really local?

The operator is based in Irvine, the city next to Lake Forest, and Lake Forest is part of the regular service area. When you call, the person who answers is with the tow operator, not a national call center passing the job along. That person knows the 5, the 241 and the main Lake Forest streets.

Can you come to Lake Forest in the middle of the night?

Yes. Calls are answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, holidays included. Night breakdowns on the 241 and the 5 can be dark and lonely, so if you can't get off the road safely, stay in the car with your belt on and call 911 before you call us.

Do you handle accident recovery in Lake Forest?

Yes. After police have cleared the scene, we can move a car that can't be driven to a shop, your home or another address. Damaged cars usually ride on a flatbed. If anyone is hurt or the cars are blocking lanes, call 911 first and wait for their instructions.

Can a flatbed get into a Foothill Ranch driveway?

Sometimes. It depends on the driveway's slope and width and on what's parked around it. If a flatbed can't reach the car, a shorter wheel-lift truck can usually back in and pull it to the street, where the flatbed loads it. Tell us about the driveway when you call.

What if I'm not sure exactly where I stopped on the 241?

Tell us your direction and the last exit or interchange you remember. Read us any sign you can see from your seat. Your phone's map app can also show your location. Don't get out of the car on the shoulder just to look around.

Do you cover cities outside Lake Forest?

This service focuses on Lake Forest, Irvine, Tustin, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach and the rest of central Orange County. If you're just outside those cities, call and tell us where you are. We'll tell you on the phone whether we can reach you or whether a long-distance quote applies.
